Extremely rare and of fine style
Lot 5132
Commemorative Series, circa 330-340. 1/3 Siliqua (Silver, 13 mm, 1.13 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis. Draped bust of Constantinopolis (or Roma?) to left, wearing crested Attic helmet and pearl necklace; all within pelleted circle. Rev. Large K within pelleted circle. Bendall, Anonymous silver, RN 158 (2002), Type 1. Cohen VII, -. Ramskold, Coins and medallions (2011), p. 146, fig. 13A (this coin). RIC -. RSC -. Extremely rare. Nicely toned and of fine style. Light scratches and with very minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, ex Lanz 102, 28 May 2001, 1009.

Bendall described the obverse as showing Constantinopolis but it must be Roma. Only seven examples of the type 'Roma left / K' are known to Ramskold (pers. comm.), in widely varying styles indicating more than one emission. The present example is finely detailed and of the best style, and although 330 appears to be too early, it is certainly from the first half of the 4th century.
